The good thing about being a community manager is that you never stop learning. The more you investigate, read or share knowledge with other colleagues, you realize how much you still have to know. I am sorry to tell you that we will never know everything about digital marketing, social networks and everything they contain.

Today I want to share 50 social media tricks that you probably didn’t know – some of them sure – that will help you improve the daily management of your social networks. I will talk specifically about certain aspects of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and Google My Business.

  1. Verification of Facebook fan pages. You don’t have to be a great company or brand to verify your fan page. Doing so is very simple. Go to “Settings” and in the third option “Verification of the page” you will be given the option to verify it through the telephone number that appears in the “Information” section. As soon as you click “Call” you will receive a call with a code on that phone. Indicate in the box the code you have been told and, You already have your page verified!
  2. Segmentation of publications by languages if you target audiences who speak different languages or geographical areas when you want to reach an audience in a specific area. This will prevent you from posting a post with the same text in several languages. To do this you just have to segment by language before publishing or programming. In the case that this option does not appear, check the configuration, specifically: “ Public of the news section and visibility of the publications
  3. Upload to the cover videos presenting your company or several attractive images in succession.
  4. If you manage a different advertising campaign of different clients, do it through Business Facebook. This is the tool that Facebook makes available to digital marketing agencies to securely manage different pages and/or advertising accounts.
  5. Never delete a negative comment, if you don’t want it to be visible, hide it, but whoever wrote it and your friends can still see it. If you do, it could turn against you since you will only get even angrier at your users. The first thing you should do in these cases is to answer the comment, but when it is offensive or lacks credibility, it is best to hide it, not delete it. The author and his friends will continue to see him, but not the rest of the followers.
  6. Rudeness filter. If your page, due to its theme, is prone to receive offensive comments, I recommend you check its configuration. In “rudeness filter” modify it to high and in “page moderation” put those that are likely to be written and that does not interest us: scam, scoundrel, theft, deception, and its derivatives with misspellings. Yes, do not hesitate to write “Sinberguenza”.
  7. User opinions or ratings. We refer to the assessments that users make about a business with a physical location and that, in addition to the comment, add an assessment. These, as long as they are positive, will help us improve the online reputation of the company and ensure that other users trust the company. It is important to know that they cannot be deleted. Just answer. If for the reason X we receive negative ratings, it is best to answer them with arguments, so that other users can create their own opinion. However, in case we don’t want it to appear, we have to choose to hide them all. As? In the page information, below the location map, you have the option:
  8. By adding different images in a link as a carousel, you can customize each of them with a different link. This is highly recommended for example for a fashion eCommerce. If you post a link to the category “Women’s Shoes”, you can share up to 5 photos, in this case, five different shoe models. And then, then, modify the link of each image to the one of the product file in question.
  9. If you want to publish a video, don’t publish the Youtube link, upload it directly. Facebook will reward you with a greater organic reach. He doesn’t like the content he directs to other sites.
  10. Create calls to action. Facebook offers us different options: send private messages, contact, register, call, Edit the one that best meets your interests.
  11. The milestones If one of the values of your company or brand is its history, enrich your page by telling the most important events or events.
  12. Private messages. Schedule an automatic message so that when someone writes you a message, you quickly get a response
  13. Customize tabs that target third-party APPs. A few posts ago I told you about those known as third-party applications to customize your fan page. Applications that add external content to our fan page. If you wish, you can modify the icon or change the order in which they are displayed. As? Display the menu of tabs on your page and click on “Manage Tabs”. Here you can change the name shown, the icon and the order.
  14. Upload animated gifs instead of JPGs. Obviously, this will be more expensive than simply creating an image in JPG, and therefore, higher cost, but the result is very attractive and will improve the engagement of the publication.
  15. If you are a community manager, the best way to learn is to see how the leading companies in each sector do it. To do this, create thematic lists of the pages that you are most interested in following.

  16. Add the URL of your website in the BIO. In this way, you achieve a quality link that will help you improve your SEO.
  17. Analyze the interaction that each of your tweets achieves through Twitter Analitycs. This way you will know which are the contents that work best
  18. Mention correctly. Always add a “.” To the beginning of a tweet if the first word is a mention to another user.
  19. Tag, in a measured way, to other users in the images you publish. You can tag up to a maximum of 10 accounts, as long as you are providing a benefit to those who tag. The opposite would be SPAM.
  20. Use the animated gifs that Twitter mobile APP offers to create more attractive tweets.
  21. Make sure that when a blog post is shared, the title and featured image of the blog is displayed. To do this you have to insert the famous Twitter Cards on your website or configure them through the SEO plugin, Yoast.

Here you have some tips, although in future posts we will talk about how to successfully manage your presence in this professional social network.

  22. Customize the URL of your personal profile. It is something very simple but that many users do not take it into account. To do this you have to update your profile settings and create a custom URL. This will improve your personal brand and when communicating on your business card or email signature, it will be much easier.
  23. Add multimedia content to both your excerpt and your different posts. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you have videos where you present a project where you have participated or a conference that you have given or simply a presentation of a case study of your own success, add it to your excerpt or to the description of the job you are referring to.
  24. Describe in a concise and clear way your “Professional Title” and add keywords. Never put “Inactive job search” or “Looking for new projects.” You are a professional of yours. The only difference between those who are self-employed or employed by others is, unfortunately, you have no customers to sell your production to.
  25. Share your own content, from your company or from third parties. In this way, you will gain visibility among your contacts and it will be a way to show yourself as an expert in your field. If you want, you can use programming tools. I advise you Hootsuite.
  26. If you program with Hootsuite, you have the option to modify the link image. However, sometimes the option is not visible. When that happens to you, program it and then edit it. You will see how the option to change the image appears.

  27. Verify your channel. To do this you will only need a mobile phone number to link to and access this page: This will allow you to upload videos of more than 15 minutes, add annotations, broadcast live events, etc.
  28. Optimize your videos for SEO. If you don’t know how I invite you to read the article “ How to optimize a YouTube video” .
  29. Group your videos into lists based on the theme.
  30. Customize the URL of your YouTube channel. To do this you must meet some requirements: exceed 100 subscribers, have a cover image and avatar, a minimum of 30 days or have linked your Google+ account with the YouTube channel.
  31. Customize the thumbnail image of your videos.  This is another of the possibilities offered by verified accounts. This will increase the CTR of your videos. In most cases, users choose a video based on the image of the thumbnail.
  32. Create gifs with video clips. To do this you must add “gif” to the URL of the video, for example,… So you will create your own original content for your posts on other social networks.
  33. Share a YouTube video from a specific moment. To do this you only have to add at the end of the URL “t = 20s” if you want it to start from the second 20, or t = 45s if it is from the second 45.
  34. Add a description to all the videos you upload. It is very important that, when you are uploading it, write at least the first paragraph. This, in addition to including keywords, should be a brief description of it.

  35. Program your publications with tools such as Hootsuite, Metricool or Latergram.
  36. Create publications by way of games, raffles or quizzes to encourage interaction and improve reach.
  37. Use all the features that stories allow you to generate engagement: surveys, questions, announce a new post in the feed.
  38. Automate the responses of private messages. To do this you have to access configuration/company/ quick answers.
  39. Make repost the pictures that you like from other users with APP Repost for Instagram.
  40. If you want to download an image, I recommend the Insta Download APP.
  41. Automatically post your photos on Twitter or Facebook. This way you will make your account known to your followers. On Facebook, I only recommend it in personal profiles. In fan pages, better not, the reach will be smaller.
  42. Create your own collages with the Layout APP.
  43. Specialize in a topic that you are passionate about.
  44. Analyze which are the photos that your followers like most. One tool for this is or use Instagram statistics if your account is business.

  45. Get your customers to make positive reviews (4 or 5 stars). You can encourage them to leave you one, but without “buying them”. If from one day to another you get 10, Google will suspect and may penalize you.
  46. Answer all your opinions . If they are negative, with more reason, but always constructively.
  47. Keep updated all the information that appears on your file.
  48. Add attractive images of your facilities or your products.
  49. Insert the embedded map where the pushpin of your business location appears on your website.
  50. And the last, upload 360 views to your page, to do this, you have to contact a trusted Google photographer.

For my part, this is all about social media tricks to improve the management of your social networks. However, you know that in this blog it is the custom of the house to share knowledge about digital marketing, and everything that concerns you: SEO, Social Media, SEM, e-mail marketing.

If you want to add a trick, I will be happy to add it to the list. It’s your turn!

Continued with the post where I explain how we can become bloggers, today we are going to talk about how to write a post correctly. First I will explain  6 aspects to consider before writing a post. And then I’ll explain the different types of content possible.

  1. Quality before quantity. Writing a post requires time and knowledge. It is better to write little and good than much and without any interest. If you opt for the first option, you will gradually achieve a community of users around your blog. Whoever reads you may subscribe to your RSS, the newsletter, your social networks, etc. And if you opt for the second, maybe at a specific time, you can attract visitors, but if the content disappoints, as they say: “one (visit) and no more.”
  2. The frequency of publication. Ideally, at least 1 times a week, but possibly due to lack of time you cannot publish as often. Although at the beginning it is even recommended two or more publications. If we want to achieve some influence and number of visits, we must strive. Anyway, the minimum recommended is 2 publications per month.
  3. Originality. Be creative and add value. What you publish must always be original, own content. Forget about copying and pasting the content of others. If you are going to do that, you better not waste your time. You will be cheating your readers, and in the end, it will harm you.
  4. It includes graphic or multimedia material. Videos, infographics, images … will help you make the content more attractive and easy to consult.
  5. Extension. Between 800 and 1,200 words is advisable. But if you extend a little more, nothing happens. Although if you see that in the end, you have a post that is too long then choose to divide it into two and identify them by (I) and (and II).
  6. Despacito and good lyrics. Try to write easily. Your readers will thank you. It is important that you express yourself correctly and that the idea you want to convey is understood as well as possible.

It is important to add that everything mentioned above also influences the organic positioning of our blog.

  1. Opinion articles or reflections. A blog is a space where one or several authors express their opinion on those aspects that they consider appropriate according to the theme of their blog. That is why it is logical and common that the entries that are published are opinion pieces or that the author presents his point of view on a current issue.
  2. Didactic articles. That is articles, where who, sign it explains some aspect of interest to its readers. As we saw in the article “6 ideas to inspire you before writing a post (III)”, readers often ask us questions via email, through social networks or in the comments of a post. We can answer them in a post. Surely that same concern also has other followers.
  3. Videos or multimedia content. A video blog is a blog format where content is published as a video. If we have resources and capacity for it, it is highly recommended, since it is better remembered and generates more credibility of the audiovisual content than the writing.
  4. The listings are usually very recurring sources of information and that is very well received among the audience. Who has not ever read an article entitled “The 10 best restaurants”, “The 5 best movies of all time” or “The 10 best places to go on vacation”?
  5. The interviews. If you have the possibility to interview prestigious professionals in your sector, this will be a content of interest for your blog. But it is important, although not essential, that the interview is justified, that there is some reason for it, for example, that you have just published a book, that you participate in a congress, that you have obtained some recognition …
  6. Reviews or recommendations. If you are a travel blogger, gastronomic, fashionable. visiting a place, reading the last book of a prestigious author or viewing the latest film by a famous director can be the perfect excuse to write a post. But beware! Your opinions must be honest if you don’t want to lose your credibility. If you allow yourself to be tempted indiscriminately by the brands that offer you some reward in exchange for prescribing their products or services, your readers will lose interest.
  7. Studies. The studies, whether made by themselves or by a prestigious organization, are valuable content. But not only the data itself, but the interpretation you make of them.
  8. Images or image galleries. If the theme of your blog lends itself to the image (gastronomy, fashion, tourism, art, etc.) you are in luck. A picture is worth a thousand words and is the content that works best on social networks.
  9. News in the scoop . Who strikes first strikes twice. If you are the first to publish news of interest to your readers, you will be assured of success. Your community will quickly visualize it, if it is relevant and novel content, thus increasing the number of visits and your notoriety and social media influence. In addition, other sites will echo the news, citing you as an original source, so that you will be able to generate quality and natural link building,  thus improving your SEO positioning. But getting a scoop is not easy. If you make your blog a benchmark in its field, it is possible that certain brands or companies may “reward” you with unpublished content so that you both benefit.

Possibly there are other types of content for a blog entry. Here I have described 9, but if you want, tell us others and I’ll add them to the list

Following the line started with the post series “How to be a blogger step by step” , today I bring you a guide of the steps to be followed to be a successful professional blogger and what aspects we should take into account. If you are a blogger and want to give your blog a boost, read this article carefully.

If you have come here, it is because of you either have a blog or are thinking about starting in this exciting world. But first, let’s see how it can help you professionally and personally sit down to write an article every weekend without knowing if someone will be behind the screen willing to read it and share it.

Curriculum. There is no better way to expose your knowledge and experience than through articles where, with total freedom, you can share your experience with other users interested in them. If you have a blog, forget about the CV in pdf. Your blog is your best business card.

Personal brand. Building a personal brand will be the best way to differentiate ourselves from other professionals, be visible to companies, position ourselves as experts and move from “looking for work” to “being sued”.

Economic benefits. You are not going to get rich overnight. If you want to, better dedicate it to something else. But if you are constant, little by little you will see how it brings you economic benefits. How? If you keep reading I explain it to you.

This blog is the room I write. The first three died shortly after. Why? Because they lacked strategy. They did not have a clear objective, nor did they target a specific audience and published low-value content. And this one that you are reading was a consequence of an “illumination”. Yes, as you read it. I was attending a community manager course back in 2010. And I thought: “If I want to tell the world that they are CM, what better way than to create a blog and position it in the top positions of Google for“ Community Manager Valencia ”.  Said and done. I bought a domain, asked a coworker to design me as I could a logo and I got down to work. I knew that before me I had a great challenge, but I was sure that I would get it.

On September 12, 2010, I published the first article. That day he only had two visits. Mine from my house and another from work. But he was willing to work. Every Sunday and every Thursday I published an article. All simple, no more than 400 words, the optimal extension for SEO at that time. And little by little the users began to arrive. Then the first mails requesting collaborations, budgets, invitations to provide training…. Until four years later it gave rise to my digital marketing agency!

Being a blogger is not easy. It requires a lot of dedication and effort. There are many blogs that are born every month, but very few that manage to survive at 6 months. If you are not willing to spend Sunday afternoons sitting in front of the computer instead of drinking beers, you better not start. But if you are convinced that you want to be a professional blogger, congratulations! I assure you will not regret. If you take care of all aspects of your blog, you will get as many visits as satisfactions. And if you don’t believe it, start writing.

But before that, I want you to consider some aspects before starting :

  • Time and desire. An article requires at least 4 hours of work. If you want to publish with a frequency of two articles a week, take account. It is not only about writing. You have to look for the sources, document yourself, organize the idea, review what you have written, optimize it for SEO, spread it through different means, analyze the results …
  • The topic. What will the blog be about? If every day you are going to talk about a different topic, I doubt that you are going to achieve loyalty to an audience, unless the value is yourself, your point of view. Better focus on a topic and always write about it addressing it from different perspectives.
  • The hosting It is the virtual space where your blog will be hosted. My recommendation is that you always bet on a hosting hosted in Spain and that it offers you good customer service. Personally I usually recommend Dinahosting or Raiola Network, but there are others equally recommended. Of course, if you are going to take this seriously, forget about 1and1.
  • The Domain. The domain is the gateway to your blog. My recommendation is that it be short, easy to remember, write and .es or .com. If it’s a personal blog, opting for our name can be a good option. Although also, as in my case, if it’s a thematic blog, you can opt for a naming related to the topic. Of the domains type better not even speak.
  • The configuration of the blog:  Once you have chosen the domain and hired the hosting, it is a matter of assembling the WordPress. Today, most hosting platforms offer you the option to install WP automatically in three simple steps, without having to do it manually.
  • The responsive template.  Bet on a simple design template and flat colors. If you don’t know where to start, trust a web designer.
  • Google Analitycs Although it is hard to believe, many times I have found a blog that does not have Google Analitycs. A blog cannot be understood without knowing what happens in it. Therefore, first of all, create an account in GA and insert the code before the </head> tag of your template.
  • The objective. What do you intend to achieve with your blog? If it’s getting rich overnight, I already commented before this is not the way. If your goal is to create a personal brand, position yourself as an expert in a subject or boost the positioning of your website, go ahead, read on!

In his day in the post ” 6 ideas to inspire you before writing a post “ we saw different formulas to get ideas for writing a post. Today we will remember the most interesting and add some new. These are:
  1. Google Analytics. What are the items that work best? See in your web analytics which are the articles that generate the most visits. Possibly 80% of your traffic comes exclusively from no more than 4 articles. And based on them, he writes new articles that complement those posts.
  2. SEO positioning. Need to push a keyword? If for SEO reasons you are interested in promoting a certain keyword, write different articles where you can work on that keyword from different approaches.
  3. Response to the most frequent comments or doubts.  If you participate regularly in forums in your sector, in addition to improving your personal brand, you will detect which are the topics that generate the most interest.
  4. Ask your social networks. Your blog is designed for your community, and this is in your social networks. Ask them what issues they care about, what they want you to talk about or what topics they would like to know more deeply. A la carte content always works. They are waiting for you!
  5. Train yourself  In any professional field it is very important that you are always aware of the news in your sector. Subscribe to similar or trending blogs, attend seminars, conferences, online courses, read books … Surely all of this comes up with new ideas for your blog.
  6. Go for a walk with your dog. Many times the best ideas come when our mind is relaxed and we allow it to “think.” A walk with your dog, a shower early in the morning or a traffic jam is many times, exceptional sources of inspiration.

It is important that we vary the type of content of our blog. Your visits will be much more interesting. I will comment on some of the most common. If you want to add any more, you can do it as a comment.

  • Listings or checklist. We talk about compilation lists that, accompanied by “you didn’t know” type crutches capture the interest of your audience. An example: “ 50 social media tricks to improve your online marketing ”. It is important to consider the number of the list: 3, 5, 10, 25, 50 … “Round” numbers. Do not stay at 23 or 37.
  • How to or “How …” These are articles that provide a solution. The important thing is that we explain in detail and step by step how to do what we are promising. It is important from time to time to review this type of content, as it is very likely that things have changed over time. Also, keep in mind that many times users use the “How …” formula to search for content. An example:  How to make raffles or promotions on the Facebook wall.

  • Collaborative articles. This type of article refers to those posts where different relevant authors contribute their point of view regarding a topic. This formula is interesting to let you know because the collaborators will help you to visualize it in social networks. And you, in return, give them a quality link to your site. An example:  8 social media experts explain how to generate engagement in social networks.
  • Tips or tricks. It is not about explaining how to do something, but about telling a particularity of a videogame, of a social or cooking network that your readers might not know. They will help you position yourself as an expert in your subject.
  • Studies. Good recurring content analyzes the analysis of trend studies or research about your field. Do not limit yourself to copying and pasting the press release that the source has released to the media. Read the study carefully and draw your own conclusions. Your readers expect your critical vision.
  • Opinion articles. Why not give your opinion on some aspect of your subject? Any news or problem in your sector can be the perfect excuse to write an opinion article and thus start an interesting conversation both in your blog and in social networks.
  • Guest Posts. Guest articles are collaborations of other professional bloggers for your blog. It is a win-win strategy. You win a quality article, with which to offer content of interest to your community; and the author benefits from the visibility of your blog to be known. Many times this technique is used to generate link building.
  • Post-series. If a topic gives much of itself, instead of writing an article of 4,000 words, choose to create several serial posts: (I), (II) and (and III). This will generate interest and increase the time of visits to your blog, and Google likes this. But do not improvise, before writing the first one, prepare in the content agenda what you will talk about in the following when they will be published, what keywords you will work on …
  • Guides or manuals. The extended version of the “How …” Its extension must be greater and must explain, in detail using images and graphics on how to perform a task, for example, “how to plan step by step an advertising campaign in Facebook Ads”.
  • Videos. If your thing is not writing, it is more talk to the camera, yours is the video-blog. Here the content is your embedded video from YouTube – never upload it directly. However, it is convenient that you add the transcription of the video in the article itself to improve its positioning.

Before you start writing, create the content agenda, where you set the goal of the post, the keyword you are going to work on, the topic you are going to discuss and possible headlines.

  • What is the purpose of the article? There are several objectives that we can set before writing a post. Improve the SEO positioning of a keyword, generate visits, increase the number of subscribers, generate quality links in other blogs, generate branding, earn income … are just some of them. To be able to set ourselves different objectives, as long as they are measurable and attainable.
  • What keywords are we going to work on? In every article one or several keywords must be worked on. It is, after deciding the objective, the decision that you have to take before facing the blank post. Before making sure that those keywords have enough search volume and don’t have high competition. Focus on the long-tail keywords that may be more profitable for you. The SEO tool Xovi Suite can help you.
  • Minimum length: 1,200 – 2,000 words. Do not be afraid to write. The greater the extent, the better positioning, as long as it is valuable content. If you have nothing to tell, you better not write anything.
  • Includes links to other sites with greater authority. To enrich your article, reference other articles of greater authority, link them and inform them of their authors. Surely they thank you by sharing the article on their networks!
  • Includes optimized images and videos. It is convenient that you complement the articles with images, infographics or, if possible, videos. And don’t forget to optimize them for SEO. As? Make sure the image is the necessary size and weighs as little as possible. It is also important that both the file and the alt tag describe the image. If you opt for the video, the better. This will increase the time spent on the web, and Google likes that.
  • Encourage users to generate content. They are key to positioning! The comments in a post will help you keep the post updated, and improve its positioning.
  • Titles that arouse interest and with words hook. A good headline will be key for users to click on your post on your social networks or in the search results. There are some terms ( “… in just 2 steps”, “definitive”, “easily”, “… what you had never been told”, “Beginner’s Guide” … ) always work. But be careful, don’t disappoint. What you promise in the headline you must offer in the article.
  • Create internal links in the article itself. A good internal link structure is key to improve the positioning of your website. Link the items to each other so that the juice among them. But be careful, don’t go crazy inserting links. It is also important that the anchor text of these is not the keyword you are working on in the article.
  • Create highlights to share on Twitter. It is important that the body of the article includes highlights. Headlines that are attractive and encourage users to share on Twitter. A plugin for this is “Click to tweet”. This will make it easier for users to visualize it.
  • Work headings properly. It is very important that you structure the content according to its importance using H1, H2, H3 … The Google spider likes it. It allows you to better understand the contents and you will improve the user experience.

So that thousands of users are interested in your blog, the first step is to write articles. Before I have already explained how to do it. And the second is to design strategies to attract quality visits, users who are really interested in your content, read it, share it, trust you, call you … Let’s see some of these strategies to generate quality traffic :

  • SEO positioning. Thoroughly optimize each article as SEO. The Yoast plugin will help you. Also, if you want, in the article “How to optimize an article for SEO” you can read how to get it positioned quickly by the keywords that interest you. It is also interesting that from time to time you optimize and update old articles. It is a good formula to improve SEO and attract qualified traffic.
  • Facebook Ads Every time I publish an article I make it known to my target audience – people interested in digital marketing – through Facebook Ads, In addition to generating quality visits, you will increase the number of fans and your personal brand.
  • Optimize old items. When you started you didn’t know as much as now, hence the importance of devoting the same time to writing new articles as to optimizing old articles. Check the extension, the headings, the goals, insert links to other articles, to the categories you want to enhance …
  • Subscriber List Subscribers are those users who one day visited your blog, we’re interested in your content and decided to leave your email to receive your next articles. Create a subscription pop-up using the SUMOME plugin and link it to the list of subscribers you have created in Mail Chimp. If you want to know more about this topic, I invite you to read David Sotoro’s article. He explains it very well.
  • Social networks. Share the articles on social networks: the fan page of the blog, discussion groups of the same theme, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and even Instagram. Try different headlines and images to see which one arouses more interest. One tool that will help you is BlogsterApp.
  • Personal Brand. Work your personal brand. Network, attend events, courses, seminars … tell the world that you have a blog!
  • LinkBuilding The links from sites of the same theme or of great authority, for example, a news portal from your country or a university, in addition to helping you improve your SEO positioning, will generate recurring traffic. Keep that in mind and prepare a LinkBuilding strategy.
  • Create valuable content. Without a doubt, the most efficient way to generate traffic. The Internet is full of garbage. With Google’s commitment to reward content, the network has been filled with content that, if it did not exist, would gain space. And users know this. The best formula to attract quality traffic to your blog is to offer different content that provides information, makes them think or entertain.

If you intend to get rich overnight, you better dedicate yourself to something else. But it is true that with work, perseverance and more work you can make a living being a professional blogger. The road is not easy. It is very long, many years, and sacrificed, but I assure you it is worth it. But how can you earn money? Here I explain some formulas.

  • Advertising. Your blog, if you have visitors, is a good advertising platform, like any media. And the more visits the better. There are several ways to make money through advertising. One of them is Google Adsense, Google’s advertising platform, which allows you to insert third-party banners into your blog. Another formula is that, depending on your audience, establish different advertising formats (Banners, buttons, pages …) and set the monthly rates of each.
  • Post sponsored. A less invasive advertising format. It consists of publishing an article where you talk about a product of a certain brand in exchange for an economic or product remuneration. Both parties must obtain a benefit.
  • Own products. Many blogs create their own products ( online courses, templates, e-books … ). Premium content that, in order to consult it, must be purchased Another type of product could be online advice.
  • Customers. If in your blog you expose your knowledge and experience, it is logical that many companies are interested in you and propose to collaborate with them or that you are part of their team.
  • Training.  Positioning yourself as an expert, you will see how they begin to invite you to give talks, workshops, conferences … and once you start, they will call you from more places. The difficult is the first.
  • Membership. A good way to earn extra money is through affiliate networks. Many digital marketing tools offer this option. If a user registers in it through the affiliate link, he receives a percentage of the cost of acquiring it.

If your business model is based on your blog, you should take all precautions. If it disappears, your project disappears with it. I remember the day they hacked my website. I wanted to die. Since then, I have hired an antivirus. It is not especially cheap, more than 200 euros a year, but I sleep more peacefully.

  • Updates. Always keep WordPress and all plugins up to date.
  • Install an anti-virus. I recommend Sucuri. The day your website redirects to an online store of adult products, you will understand the importance of antivirus.
  • Bet on a quality hosting, which offers good customer service and makes daily backups.
  • Change the password frequently. How long have you not modified the password? Don’t you even remember Then it’s time to change it? My advice is to contain numbers, letters, and special characters.
  • Properly manage users who have access. No names to all who have administrator access. Depending on their functions you can name them administrators, editors, authors or collaborators.
  • Database backup. If your hosting does not periodically make backup copies of the database, it is convenient that you install a good plugging.
  • Eliminate plugins that no longer contribute anything. Check what plugins you have installed. Those who do not provide any functionality, delete them.
  • Do not use as user “admin”. If this is your case. Create another user with a different user and transfer all articles and pages and then delete that user.

I hope you found this article interesting. It is a summary of my presentation “How to be a blogger and look like an accident” delivered on June 5, 2017, in Web Congress. I encourage you to put into practice everything mentioned and not lose your motivation to write. And if you found it interesting, share it on Twitter!

Walking through the streets of the center of Valencia, reading other blogs, listening to a presentation at a congress, attending a course … are some of the practices that help me extract ideas to write a post for this digital marketing blog; or when creating content for a content marketing strategy for a customer.

Precisely in this third post of the series  “How to be a blogger step by step”, we will discuss some techniques that will help us get ideas for creating posts. Although we must not forget that “inspiration exists, but it has to find you working”.

Before writing an article, it is convenient to establish a monthly content agenda. It will be necessary to indicate which topic will be treated and when it will be published. In this way, we will have a global vision of the planned contents and we will be able to see if we are alternating themes or we are repetitive.

blog posts ideas

These are 6 possible sources of information/inspiration that can help us generate ideas for new posts. But only that, ideas. Always, as authors, we must provide a new point of view, new approaches, data and information of interest and relevance. Otherwise, we will be devoted to the indifference of the blogosphere.

  1. Other blogs. If you usually read blogs related to yours, you may have ideas, such as answers to what you have already read or to show your point of view. Of course, always provide valuable content. If you are going to say the same thing or you are going to limit yourself to the copy/page (an increasingly widespread evil), you better save the post.
  2. post that already worked on your blog.  Surely you have one or two posts that have generated many visits. Take advantage that you know what your followers want and prepare new content, which adds more information to the previous one or brings a new approach.
  3. The comments of the readers. A question or doubt in a comment can serve as a footer to answer as a post. In this way, we will not only respond to a reader but possibly solve a question that other users may have and have not expressed it in your blog or in a discussion group.
  4. Today. The publication of a study, a novelty of a social network, the publication of a book, a social, political, sports or any other event, the celebration of an event … can serve as inspiration.
  5. A topic of discussion in a forum or group. Users often resort to forums or discussion groups to raise doubts or in search of the answer to a topic. If we detect an issue that arouses great interest, it may be interesting to prepare an article expressing our opinion or responding to user concerns. And later share it in that same group.
  6. The keywords of the  SEO positioning of the blog. If we want to optimize our blog it will be convenient for us to write different articles emphasizing those terms.

Sources of inspiration to write can be many more. The important thing is to have an open mind and know how to develop that content so that it is relevant and of interest to your readers.

Do you have a blog or write in a publication? Tell us what you do to find ideas for topics to write. It’s your turn.

Thousands of blogs are abandoned outdoors on the Internet within a few months of creating them. If one day we decide to start in the controversial world of the blogosphere, let’s be aware that we start an adventure that will not be easy.

We have already talked in previous posts how to value a blog, what were its  10 deadly sins, how to attract visitors and even how to make money with a blog. But we have never thought about what we need to be a blogger.

It is curious that practically everything necessary depends on oneself. We see in detail what we need.

  1. An objective. Why do you want to have a blog? Before you begin, answer this question. As a personal brand where to expose your knowledge? To comment on the topics you like most? To show your latest works? As a personal diary?
When I started writing this blog I had a clear objective: to create my personal brand as an online marketing professional, specifically as a community manager.
  2. A defined target audience. Define previously who you want me to read to you. Potential customers? Subject matter experts? Other movie fans in case of writing about the latest film releases?
  3. Have something to tell. Exact! If you have nothing to contribute, it is better not to say anything. Fusilar the articles of others are very frowned upon. Being a blogger implies wanting and knowing how to expose something in a clear and concise way, it is better to leave metaphors and convoluted rhetorical figures. Therefore, if you have something to write, write it in a way that is of interest making readers reach the end of the post.
  4. Enjoy writing. A blog is a hobby, not an obligation. If you don’t like to write, if you were the ones you copied from your brothers to the letter to the Magi, it’s difficult for you to enjoy a blog.
  5. Time. Writing takes time. And if you intend to write at least 1 post a week (at least if you want to get some notoriety), it will mean that on Sunday mornings, for example, instead of being with your friends drinking a beer and telling them your stories, be with your computer also telling your stories to your friends 2.0. At first, it is not the same, but over time, it is gratifying.
  6. Win. Being motivated is essential, perhaps the most important thing to manage a blog. Nobody is going to thank you, a priori, nobody is going to reward you for your effort more than you. But if you are clear about your goal, and work to achieve it, you will be more motivated every day.
  7. Knowledge on the subject. Write about a topic that you are passionate about or interested in. If you are not interested in a topic, you will not know what to write about or have motivation.
  8. Predisposition to assume criticism. A blog is a place open to comments and criticism, so any contribution or discrepancy must be welcomed.
  9. Patience. The day after you publish your first posts, you will enter Google Analitycs and check that there are only 2 visits: yours, and yours from work. Even your friends, whom you forced them to enter, have ignored you. Quiet, it’s logical. The visits will arrive little by little and you have patience and know-how to wait and write the content of interest.
  10. Autoexigencia. Don’t settle for writing anything. Therefore, before hitting the publish button, make sure that what you publish today, you will not regret tomorrow. This does not mean that you present an opinion today and after years review it again and say: How could I write this! It happens to all of us, but that’s good. The signal we have learned.
  11. Constancy and dedication. A blog must be updated periodically and for this, we must be constant in the generation of content. If we want to achieve faithful followers, we often have to offer content of interest. Minimum 2 posts per month.
  12. A web platform and a domain. My recommendation is WordPress but the Google platform,, is much simpler and more intuitive. If you are not an expert programmer, better start with Blogger and if everything goes well, later we can migrate to WordPress. Regarding the domain, if we do not want to spend money, we can use the one that both platforms offer by default: or;  But for 10 euros a year the domain can cost us, it is worth buying.

There are already several queries that have been made to me either by e-mail or by Twitter asking me if there is any way to make money with a blog. You enter, you see it and the answer is clear: “Yes, removing it from the network.” A blog that is actually a showcase of google Adwords already commented in the post  “The 10 mistakes you should not make in a blog”  that will never attract visitors because it lacks the essential: quality content.

However, it is possible to make money with a blog, even if the income they generate is simply an extra. I doubt that you can live on it unless we have a blog that records several thousand daily visits.

The number of visits is the indicator to know if a blog is profitable or not. If someone has an interest in advertising it will be the first thing you ask. Or if we intend to offer it as advertising support, the first thing they will ask us for will be a web analytics report, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Therefore, before thinking about how to make money with our blog we must ask ourselves how to attract quality visits.

But now we are going to enumerate and briefly describe the different advertising options or forms that we can use in a blog to obtain income:

    • Pay per click. Inserting Google Adsense is the easiest way to earn revenue with ads. Although really who benefits most is Google. We put at your disposal our site and he only gives us a small part of what you enter for each click.
    • Payment per impression. It is the model that most general information sites use or that belong to communication groups. The impressions that are released are charged to both. For this, it is necessary to have an ad server, that is, a manager that serves the impressions of the banners to the spaces that are available on the web. Possibly for a blog is not the most convenient.
    • Sponsorship. An advertiser hires banners on one or several blogs. These banners are usually fixed and can be accompanied by sponsored posts.
    • Post payment (sponsored post). It is perhaps one of the best forms of advertising for its credibility as long as the blog itself is not a showcase of sponsored posts. In that case, they have no value.

Many companies begin to realize the importance of talking about their services/products on certain blogs. It consists of doing online communication cabinet actions where sometimes you can “reward” bloggers in one way or another: invitations to events, gifts, samples … The goal is to value the product on your blogs. These actions do not usually pay cash to bloggers, but the incentive can be considered as such. It can be a good gift.

If you work your blog as an enhancer of your professional curriculum, it is possible that over time and if you prove to have knowledge about what you write, they will call you as an expert in your subject to give a lecture, write an article in a magazine, offer a course training or … They can offer you a job!

Yes, it is common to see plugins for content managers who request a donation, but in a blog, as a claim not to include advertising, in Spanish blogs, it is very unusual.

However, nobody wants to create a blog with the sole purpose of living exclusively on it. Cases like Issa Weis’s occur very rarely. But if you generate the content of interest and eventually attract traffic to your site, it is possible that someone has an interest in advertising on your blog or counting on you for a project.

Are you a blogger and do you earn income with your blog? Do you know other ways to earn money? Tell us!

Any blogger wants his blog to be a success: receive hundreds of visits every day, be invited to events, get new clients, important companies call him to work, brands want to advertise on it … But this is not easy.

As in any media, success is measured in terms of audience. The more visits a blog has, the more successful it is, therefore, better. And if those visits end up generating economic benefits, better than better.

In future posts, we will talk about how to make money with a blog. But first, we must be able to attract visitors. That is why we are going to comment on different blog optimization formulas that will help us.

  1. Through search engines. And this is achieved by optimizing our page according to SEO parameters. Let’s try to appear first by the search terms related to our site.
  2. Making other websites or blogs link to ours. It is what is known as link building. It is a technique that will also help us improve our SEO positioning. A good formula to generate quality links is to publish valuable content on other blogs of the same subject as a guest author or guest blogging.
  3. Improving the usability of the blog. This will help us above all to ensure that the average duration of each visit is longer. The goal is that once the user is in our blog, you can find other articles of interest in different ways: related posts, latest entries, the most read, internal search engines …
  4. Generating discussions in discussion forums around the theme of our last post. The LinkedIn professional social network, among its different functions, allows us to participate in discussion groups. In them, we can open discussions related to the theme of our post and indicate that our point of view is also set out in our blog.
  5. Adding social media plugins that allow sharing the entries in the main social networks.
  6. Creating “satellites” of the blog in other social networks. That is, creating a fan page, a page on Google+ or a Twitter account. In addition to linking our articles, we can share articles from other blogs that are of interest to us.
  7. Sharing the posts on Twitter and tagging them with a hashtag, in Facebook groups or in other blogs and participating in forums. But beware! Be cautious, they could call you spam.
  8. Creating “advertising” headlines that arouse the interest of the reader. But yes, try that the post responds to the expectations created.
  9. Creating content of interest. Although it is the last point, it is undoubtedly the most important. In a blog or website, the content is king. Never copy and paste content from others, both Google and your potential readers will penalize you.

These are just 10 ideas that can help us see our audience grow but surely you know more. What other formulas do you think help to achieve more visits to a blog or website? What do you usually do to attract more visits to your website?
